Fine Arts alumnus in group exhibit at University of Rhode Island

Anthony Montuori, who was enrolled in the college Fine Arts Program in 2004 and 2005, is one of four artists included in the exhibit, “Pardon Our Appearance,” in the Fine Arts Center’s Main Gallery at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston.

In addition to Montuori, Oscar Bedford, Nick Fagan and Bradley Milligan are exhibiting in “Pardon Our Appearance.” All four artists have worked or are currently working in unglamorous behind-the-scenes gallery or museum jobs: moving artwork, installing shows, and building crates, among many other tasks. The exhibit investigates the sometimes tense relationship between art as a pure impulse for expression and art as an extremely useful arm of global capitalism, and whose luxury status is maintained by an army of poorly paid and protected labor. These artists share an interest in craft, the status and lifecycle of the discrete “art object,” as well as the blue collar jobs of the art world.

“Pardon Our Appearance” closes March 10.
